This week the meeting went well. There was a little problem with a kid who acted up but they were taken care of and we went on in class. Next week I am going to be teaching them an honor (a mini course that allows them to get a patch for each different subject). It looks like it will be boring at first but it will get more fun at the end because it involves some science. Obviously science is my true passion so I was glad to hear that I could teach this honor.
As for my research paper, I changed my topic. My reasoning behind the change was that I was trying to narrow it down like the board suggested, but I could not find a way to do that. My new topic is "Are single gender classes more beneficial than co-ed classes". I started the paper around 11:00 last night and worked until 12:30 so I have a little bit written down and a ton of information to go through but at least things are moving.
Thesis: Single gender classes are not beneficial for a better education for students because of the existence of problems within gender, tensions in race and equality, and the evidence of segregation within the school; practices such as smaller classes and determined teachers create better solutions to the problems of children who act out.
I appreciate that you are such an excellent Spanish student but for the sake of your readers please stick with english in this blog! On Friday when you were visiting Clemson I met with each of the AP students about their projects and we set deadlines- apparently without intermediate deadlines for the research paper it is being relegated to the bottom of the pile- which does not bode well for such a paper! So the deadlines I have set for you are to have a clear thesis, 50 notecards (including 5 source cards) and a working outline by Wednesday 10/20. This is based on the research information from Mrs. Steller which I gave you last week. We can discuss this further on Monday.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are especially enjoying some of the work you are doing with the boys!
I don't think you have posted or said how you are going to make this project your own. Don't forget to do that, as well as figure out how you will have your leader evaluate you. I will be happy to help you with this - just come talk to me about it.
Your topic interests me very much. You may discover from your research that single gender classes do help certain students in certain age groupings. How are you going to break up your research?
ReplyDeleteYou have written a definitive, arguable thesis. Some terminology will need to be defined early in your paper. That's fine. Go for it!
